It's kind of a long story,

but let's catch you up in case you missed an episode.

Kate and David met in January 2000 as classmates in year 8 at Pimlico High. Friends, studymates and pair programmers for many years, they finally started dating on the fateful night of 12 August 2007. Theirs is an epic love story over 10 years in the making, full of moving out, finishing uni, moving back in again, buying a house, moving out (permanently), finishing more uni, getting real jobs, installing garden irrigation, going on world trips, getting engaged, and raising a cactus family together.

is an awesome number

Their shared loves include technology, Mexican food, the number 42, dark sarcasm, Savage Garden, Jack Bauer, badgers, rum and shrubberies. They jointly detest streetlights, litterbugs, modern music, Vogon poetry, parsing HTML with regex, undercooked chicken, poor Grammar, and unfinished

Kate and David’s journey culminates (peaks?) on 12 August 2017, when they will start an even bigger and more exciting chapter together.

Our wedding team

They're all as crazy as we are.

Miradija

Bridescompanion
Better known as Marnie, she’s the non-identical twin Kate never had. Their friendship started at Pimlico High in year 10 after she relocated to Townsville, and continued through their senior years and university studies. They lived together in the final year of their respective degrees at the now-legendary “Nuthouse” (along with David and James). Though Marnie now lives in Tassie, the miles and oceans between them can’t seem to curb the silliness.

Giovanni

Bridescompanion
Giovanni and Kate have been friends since their early days of reading newspapers for fun in year 8 at Pimlico High. They’ve debated against the best and won, held countless election parties, enjoyed many different BBC productions, and shared extremely cold international holidays together. Despite Giovanni now living in Sydney, their long-distance quest for world domination continues.

James

Best Man
James and David have been friends since grade 8 and James once set fire to David's arm in year 9 chemistry, proving that neither should be allowed near hazardous substances. James introduced David to "Weird Al" Yankovic, Lemon & Paeroa soft drink and LAN gaming. After living together in university, their shared love of bargains lead to every Dick Smith and Officeworks store known to man. David recalls the first thing James said to him:

“Hey, you've got weasels on your face.”

Wade

Groomsman,
Ring Bearer
Wade's intellect is rivalled only by his ability to play the cello… and computer games. Wade and David met in grade 8, playing too many card games at lunch time (and in class). In university, they shared an office, suffered Honours together & played StarCraft when times got tough. They've worked on various IT projects throughout the years, peaking in the epic failure to play a DVD in New Zealand.

Michael

Groomsman,
MC,
Long-suffering brother
Michael and David have been brothers ever since the former was born, recently proven via a DNA test as we weren't quite sure. They share the love of Dr Pepper, Lost, Scrubs, technology and adventure. They honour their forefathers by continuing Beitey traditions of saving money at any cost. A recent trip to Japan strengthened their bonds through late nights, Pachinko and confrontations with older women on the street. Michael offers free medical advice and will be available for consultation at the wedding.

Gifts and Registry

After 10 years together we've amassed so many things already; we propose this poem to help explain.

Gift

Please no toasters, kettles, glasses or mugs
And we're maxed out on cutlery, vases & rugs
Your presence to us is itself a gift
But if you still find yourself adrift
Wanting to give us a small token
Beyond the words that you have spoken
A present of money toward our honeymoon
(which we’ll be taking sometime soon),
Or toward projects in our house or yard,
Or even just a special card,
Would be more than generous,
And, in fact, quite stupendous.

If you would like to sponsor part of our honeymoon (we're currently thinking Hawaii), we'll be ever-so-grateful. We have a few ideas for you:

$ Drinks on the beach
$ Snacks at the markets
$$ Dinner somewhere special
$$ A night's accommodation
$$$ Part of the flight costs
??? … or anything you can imagine

Accomodation

There are plenty of places to stay in town but sadly our place isn't one of them this time. Try these instead! Add a deal or two as well.

About our region

Townsville, North Queensland in 60 seconds

  • Where: North Queensland, Australia. Think tropics, the Great Barrier Reef, rainforest and islands.
  • Getting here: come via a capital city or Cairns. Flights appear on special to/from the USA right now. In general, try Qantas, I Want That Flight & OzBargain.
  • Transport: taxis and public transport can be a bit limited and very expensive, so try rental cars, ride-sharing with other guests or the newly-established Uber service (exciting!).
  • Weather: temperate and dry in August, only bring a light jacket unless you get cold easily.
  • Things to do: Magnetic Island, Paluma, Castle Hill, take a reef trip, Frosty Mango, Paronella Park, Cairns, and lots more
  • Wildlife: it's everywhere. Not kangaroos running amok in the street, but wallabies live near us and we saw a crocodile in the river last week. We have kookaburras too and about a million fruit bats.
